- Pressure Washer Warning: Never use a pressure washer up close on your Kevlar doors. High-pressure water can easily strip the gel coat and military-grade paint directly off the composite surface, requiring extensive and costly repairs. When cleaning your vehicle, stick to low-pressure garden hoses and hand-washing around the door assemblies to preserve your finish and protect your seals.
- Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Isopropyl alcohol requires proper handling safety. Always wear appropriate eye protection and chemical-resistant gloves that are fully rated to withstand alcohol contact. You must also wear breathing protection, specifically a protective mask or respirator rated for filtering out airborne chemical fumes and organic vapors.
🛠️ Step-by-Step E-Z Installation & Surface Prep Guide
Following these simple steps ensures your new 3M industrial adhesive backing activates a permanent, airtight bond [15.1]:
- Check the Temperature (Crucial Step): Ensure the doors and the gasket material are at room temperature (above 60°F) before starting. Applying a peel-and-stick product to a cold door will prevent the adhesive from bonding permanently. If it's cold outside, bring the doors inside a heated garage or workspace first.
- Slice the Old Seal: Use a sharp razor knife to carefully slice away your old, degraded factory gasket flush against the door frame.
- Clean the Installation Area: Put on your safety glasses, alcohol-resistant gloves, and fume mask. Thoroughly clean the entire installation area using only pure, high-purity Isopropyl Alcohol. Do not use standard rubbing alcohols that contain diluted water, moisturizers, or fragrances, as these leave a chemical film that completely destroys the 3M adhesive bond. Wipe it down thoroughly on the area of the door where the new weatherstripping will be installed to clear away caked-on dust, weathering, and environmental residue. Let it dry completely.
