Product Description

Dual voltage alternator, simultaneous outputs of 28 Volt / 14 Volt, 100 Amps.
This alternator is used on the M1078 and M1083 series.
  • C.E. Niehoff Co. model N1506-1. Military P/N 12420852. NSN 6115014194033.
  • Alternator is brushless design (no brushes and no slip rings to wear out).
  • Integral N3030 dual voltage regulator.
  • Rated output of 100 amps is maximum combined total current between the two outputs.
  • Upper voltage output (28V) is rectified with standard diodes. Lower voltage output (14V) is controlled by SCRs in the drive end housing.
  • Alternator output current is self-limiting and will not exceed rated capacity of alternator.
  • F- terminal (used optionally on some vehicles).
  • One wire energize power (24 volt) input to regulator. All input and output connections via terminal studs.
  • Can replace N1509-1 (12422863) and N1511-1 alternators, however, N1506-1 is not compatible with the N2003 Load & Battery Control. If the N2003 is used on the vehicle do not use N1506-1. Consult service literature for details on model differences.

The C.E. Niehoff 100 Amp Dual Voltage (14V/28V) Alternators are heavy-duty components built for the U.S. Military's FMTV and LMTV (Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles / Light Medium Tactical Vehicles) series. They are designed to supply simultaneous 14V and 28V power to support both regular vehicle electrical needs and advanced military electronics.

    Understanding the Model Differences (N1506, N1509, N1511)
While all three share the core function of producing a maximum combined total output of 100 Amps, they differ in their internal voltage regulators and vehicle component compatibility:
Niehoff N1506 (N1506-1): Uses an integrated N3030 regulator. It features NO external diagnostics LEDs. Crucial Note: The N1506-1 is not compatible with the N2003 Load & Battery Control (LBCD) unit found on many tactical vehicles. If your truck utilizes an N2003 unit, do not use this model.

Niehoff N1509 (N1509-1): A later iteration that features built-in diagnostics LEDs on the back. It is fully compatible with vehicles equipped with the N2003 Load & Battery Control (LBCD) system.
Niehoff N1511 (N1511-1): The standard modern replacement model found on many 2.5-ton and 5-ton tactical trucks (M1078, M1083, etc.) equipped with Caterpillar 3116 or 3126 engines. It uses an N3207 regulator and works seamlessly with the vehicle's standard electrical system.
    Technical Specifications
    • Voltage Outputs: Simultaneous 14 Volt and 28 Volt
    • Amperage: 100 Amp maximum combined total across both output terminals
    • Engines Commonly Supported: Caterpillar 3116 and Caterpillar 3126
    • Design Features: Brushless construction for extreme durability, built-in overvoltage shutdown, and negative temperature compensation.
